Dress Code

An important part of our dance program is that students arrive prepared to dance with the appropriate attire for dance. Students will need proper shoes and clothing for each class. Please check out our dance shop. DDC students will receive a special discount on all apparel and shoes.

Pre-School Ballet/Tap Combination Classes

  • Ballet shoes; Ballet pink for girls, black for boys. Prefer leather Capezio for color and style (nylon or other bedroom slipper not allowed)
  • Leotard and tights. No long skirts allowed; only optional ballet skirts
  • Tap shoes; black with cat paws. Must have elastic, snap, or buckle.
  • Hair should be pulled back in a bun or ponytail

Ballet [Technique Class]

Boys:

  • Black shorts
  • White T-shirt or tank
  • Black ballet shoes

Girls:

  • Black leotard
  • Pink tights
  • Ballet pink ballet shoes (canvas or leather)
  • Ballet skirt (optional)
  • Hair should be neatly pulled back in a bun.

Competition Level Ballet 

  • Black leotard
  • Black tights
  • Black or ballet pink ballet shoes (canvas or leather)
  • No shorts or skirts at the barre. Ballet skirts are optional for centre work.

Jazz/Tap and Competition Lines

Boys:

  • Black shorts
  • White T-shirt or tank
  • Black ballet shoes

Girls:

  • Leotard (any color) tights
  • Jazz and tap shoes 
  • May accessorize leotard with fitted dance camisole, dance shorts or Capri
  • Hair must be pulled back from face securely

Etiquette

Personal discipline and respect for yourself, your team, and your instructors are important ingredients for a successful dance experience

  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to class and dressed to dance
  • No gum
  • Attendance is important. Poor attendance puts you and the entire class behind
  • Excused absences are non refundable but can be made up
  • Encourage and support your dance team members
  • Class time is dance time. Save personal conversation for before and after class. If you have a question, raise your hand and ask your instructor
  • Represent yourself and the studio, both in and out of the classroom, with good sportsmanship
  • Keep a positive can-do attitude
  • The studio has the right to dismiss any students whose attitude or conduct is unsatisfactory
  • No street shoes on the dance floor
  • Have fun!
