Classes

At Duluth Dance Center, we offer classes for students from the age of pre-school to adult.  Students are placed in classes according to age and/or ability at the discretion of the instructor. Our classes are designed to give each student personal attention and a sense of responsibility to the group. In addition to our dance curriculum, we offer performing and competition lines which are open by audition for ages 5 through High School. Dancers may also compete with solos, duets, and trios and must audition or be at a competition level.

Competition & Performing Lines

Competition and performance offer students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skill as dancers with more intensive practice and focus on dancing as a team. We offer seven different Competition and Performing teams: Diamond, Sapphire, Emeralds, Rubies, Pearls, Gems and Sparkles. Tryouts are mandatory for all of these lines.

Diamond & Sapphire

These lines are required to come to class twice a week for a total of three hours of instruction a week; one hour of Ballet technique and two hours of tap and hip-hop. These lines perform at the local dance shows and many of the Duluth Competitions with one or two out of town competitions.

Emeralds & Rubies

These lines are required to come twice a week for a total of two and a half hours a week. One hour of Ballet technique and one and a half hours of tap and jazz/hip-hop. These lines perform at the local dance shows and many of the Duluth Competitions with one or two out of town competitions.

Pearls, Gems, & Sparkles

These dance lines focus more on performance than competition. Dancers should be at least six years old with two years of experience to try-out. These lines will perform at several local dance shows and participate in at least one local competition. Performing line dancers are required to come twice a week for a total of two and a half hours a week. One hour of Ballet technique and one and a half hours of tap and jazz/hip-hop.

Competition lines have the option to take additional classes in jazz, lyrical, pre-pointe and pointe. Solos are also an option.
